Driving Sustainable Practices among Small Tea Growers (STGs)

With the support of Luxmi Tea, the project continued to strengthen sustainable tea cultivation across Assam’s Dibrugarh district in July 2025. Through a combination of farmer trainings, chemical compliance drives, plucking demonstrations, and institutional linkages, the initiative is empowering STGs to adopt better practices, increase productivity, and build long-term resilience. 

Key Highlights – July 2025 

  • Farmer Outreach: 17 farmer meetings conducted, engaging 195+ STGs on GAP, fine leaf count, IPM, and Tea Board schemes. 
  • Chemical Stock Monitoring: Physical verification of stocks conducted for 225 STG to ensure responsible usage. 
  • Residue Testing: 46 random leaf samples tested for non-approved chemical traces to ensure quality compliance. 
  • Tea Board Linkage: 51 STGs applied for biometric cards to access government schemes and services. 
  • Mechanization Demo: Plucking machine demonstration held with 25+ STGs to address labour shortages and improve efficiency. 
  • Training on Sustainable Cultivation: A session on organic practices, traditional knowledge (ITKs), and hand-rolled green tea was held with 16 STGs. 
  • Health & Well-being: A health camp organized at Nemupather in partnership with Naharani Block PHC served 50 STGs (38 men, 12 women).
