Strengthening Farmer Collectives through AE–FPO Integration

The SBI Foundation LEAP Program continues to build resilient agri-value chains in Madhya Pradesh by enabling Agri-Entrepreneurs to lead Farmer-Producer Companies (FPOs). On 6th August 2025, a one-day Orientation Workshop was held at Dhar for 75 selected AEs and project officials, aimed at preparing them to transition from running individual agri-businesses to managing FPOs. 

The session was led by Mr. Rajendra Jog (Executive Director); Dr. Anitha Govindraj (Head – Gender & FPO Initiatives, SFI), and Mr. Abhishek Gupta (Project Lead).  

To recognize excellence, 5 Best Performing AEs, 5 Rising Stars, 3 Best AEMs, and 1 Best New AEM were awarded. This initiative not only honored their contributions but also inspired others to strengthen farmer collectives and drive inclusive growth. 

Key Highlights – August 2025 (Workshop) 

  • Orientation of AEs on FPO registration and business operations 
  • Discussion on the importance of FPOs and their governance structure 
  • Open-house Q&A session with participants 
  • Roles and responsibilities of the Board of Directors and the CEO explained 
  • Introduction of the Hub & Spoke model for AE–FPO integration 
  • Sharing of 13 success stories showcasing the impact on income and entrepreneurship 

The SBI Foundation LEAP Program continues to drive income enhancement and resilience for smallholder farmers in Madhya Pradesh through agri-entrepreneurship and collective action. August 2025 was marked by new incubations, training, government linkages, and recognition of farmer leaders. 

Expanding the AE Network 

  • 12 new Agri-Entrepreneurs (AEs) onboarded, taking the total to 299 AEs incubated and 302 active AEs this month. 
  • Together, they are delivering last-mile agri and allied services—from quality inputs and nurseries to poultry, goatery, digital banking, and crop advisory—benefiting over 7,800 smallholder farmers. 

 Infrastructure & Grants 

  • Under SBIF grant support, 41 nursery structures were booked, 36 installed, and 27 fully paid, enabling AEs to supply quality seedlings and promote climate-resilient practices. 
  • 141 AEs applied for SBIF grants; 84 received funds for agri-services and infrastructure to scale their businesses. 

Policy & Scheme Linkages 

  • 73 AEs (55 new) secured Udyam Registration, unlocking MSME recognition, subsidies, and credit opportunities. 
  • Under the PMFME scheme, 4 AEs availed benefits worth ₹6.6 lakh, and 65 applications were submitted by 14 AEs on behalf of 52 farmers for food processing support. 

Demonstrations & Farmer Engagement 

  • 10 Kharif demo plots implemented and inspected, showcasing improved practices and technologies. 
  • 119 farmer meetings (by AEs and AEMs) enhanced awareness, trust, and mobilization for collective action.
