Understanding the evolving needs of farmers is the first step toward meaningful impact. Syngenta Foundation India deepened its commitment to evidence-based action by launching a comprehensive Farmer/AE/FPO Need Assessment Survey across three major states—Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh. This survey isn’t just a data collection exercise, it’s a bridge between grassroots voices and smart agricultural solutions.

The survey aims to explore the lived realities of farmers and agri-entrepreneurs, what works, what doesn’t, and what’s needed next. From access to water and markets to the impact of climate change, this initiative is uncovering the diverse challenges rural communities face and the opportunities that await.
So far, the survey has been completed in Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh, with Madhya Pradesh underway. The scale of participation reflects the enthusiasm and urgency on the ground:
- Total Target Respondents: 1,246
• 1,104 Farmers
• 132 Agri-Entrepreneurs (AEs)
• 10 Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs)
These interactions help shape insights around:
- Preferred crop choices and emerging diversification trends
- Constraints in irrigation and declining soil health
- Gaps in market linkages and access to affordable credit
- The increasing influence of climate variability on productivity
- The appetite for new-age technologies and training in modern practices
