As part of the global Hatching Hope initiative co-created by Heifer International and Cargill, the Feathers of Fortune project, led by Syngenta Foundation India, is transforming rural livelihoods through community-based Poultry Entrepreneurs (PEs) in Madhya Pradesh. The program aims to create sustainable income opportunities for farmers while improving nutrition and productivity through backyard poultry (BYP) farming.

Farmer Training & Outreach

  • 1,725 farmers attended light-touch trainings on BYP across 75 farmer meetings.
  • 269 farmers received detailed training led by Poultry Entrepreneur Mentors (PEMs).
  • 6,141 farmers have been registered on the AEDD application, strengthening farmer-to-PE engagement.

Entrepreneur Development & Business Incubation

  • 85 Poultry Entrepreneurs (PEs) have completed training to date.
  • 42 trained PEs have initiated chick placements on their farms &16 PEs are currently constructing sheds.
  • 2 trained PEs and 10 farmers received financial support totaling ₹2,43,450 from MPSRLM in Kundam and Dindori districts.

Market Linkage & Livelihood Impact

  • 370.4 kg of poultry meat was marketed locally in Jabalpur and Kundam at ₹230/kg.
  • 3,750 chicks were supplied in May 2025, along with 2 MT of poultry feed through local vendors.
  • 4 PEs recorded a business transaction value of ₹1,40,006.
