Diversifying Livelihoods for Sustainable Growth
The Living Income Project in partnership with IDH and HUL continued to empower Small Tea Growers (STGs) across Assam in June 2025, with a strong focus on crop diversification, skill-building, and market connectivity. Activities across multiple factory regions not only expanded economic options for STGs but also fostered resilient, climate-smart livelihoods for long-term income enhancement.
Key Highlights
- Farmer Engagement: 17 meetings were conducted across 4 factory zones, engaging 248 STGs (including 69 women).
- New Livelihood Avenues:
- 22 STGs initiated poultry farming under the BLF factories.
- 2 STGs in Surya factory began company-based poultry with 1,400 chicks.
- 2 STGs under Tiloijan factory launched King Chilly plantations.
- 5 STGs started Betel Leaf cultivation; 10 each initiated Black Pepper and Milky Mushroom farming.
- Market Linkages:
- 248 STGs were supported by Agri-Entrepreneurs (AEs) to access markets.
- A total of 1,960 kg of King Chilly has been linked to market channels so far.
- Veterinary Support: Vaccination camps were held at Tiloijan and Kadamba factories with the help of the Veterinary Department.
